There was a grand opening ceremony on Friday for the new glitzy Bengaluru International Airport T2 (KIA) in Bengaluru by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It has been nicknamed the “Terminal in a Garden” due to the fact that most of the materials in this facility were made from bamboo, and it will handle 2.5 crore passengers annually. It is estimated that the construction cost for this terminal will be around 5,000 crores.

According to the Prime Minister’s tweet, “Terminal 2 of the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru will add capacity and further convenience. It is a part of our efforts aimed at providing top class infrastructure to our urban centres. The Terminal is beautiful and passenger friendly! Glad to have inaugurated it.”

As a first-of-its-kind ‘Terminal in a Garden,’ the Terminal-2 of the Kempegowda International Airport is a architectural wonder. The new terminal is designed to give passengers the experience of walking through a garden as they travel through the new terminal,” KIA officials said, according to PTI. The terminal will be surrounded by lush greenery inside and outside, providing a visual delight unlike any other. The hanging garden is one of the most popular attractions.

The Terminal-2 is designed as a tribute to the Garden city of Bengaluru and the passenger experience is supposed to be a “walk in the garden”. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office said that passengers would experience a “walk in the garden” by walking through the 10,000 square meters of green walls, hanging gardens and outdoor gardens. It has already established itself as a leader in sustainability by utilizing 100% renewable energy on its campus, according to the statement.

As part of the design of the facility, sustainability principles have been incorporated into the construction process. Taking into account the sustainability initiatives, Terminal-2 will be the largest terminal in the world to have a platinum rating pre-certified by the American Green Building Council (US GBC) prior to launching operations, according to the statement.

Naurasa” is the theme that unites all the artworks that have been commissioned for Bengaluru International Airport T2. They reflect the heritage and culture of Karnataka as well as the broader Indian culture, the statement continued.
